Are you ready to make a little mischief?

Let me describe what I have in mind and you decide whether you want to participate.  The basic concept is to make a very visible sign at most if not all freeway exit ramps and on any hillside where it might look nice, all across the United States or world, up to you.  This sign will be applied during the winter (now), but gain visibility only when the season changes to spring, like magic.

The activity involves spreading some fertilizer on the grass in the pattern of a large triangle with the point down.  The triangle with the point down is symbolic of Earth.  The triangle is also the Greek letter delta and used in scientific notation to denote change.  We are doing this to call attention to the desperate situation we have put our planet in and to express hope that we can change our behavior before it is too late.

The fertilizer can be any high nitrogen variety without weed killers. Apply according to directions – too much will burn the plants.

You will need a template consisting of three weights and three lengths of cord or string or old extension cords or whatever you might have laying around.  Use the weights for the points of the triangle and the cord for the legs of the triangle.  The legs should be around ten to fifteen feet each.  You will also need to print up some QR stickers pointing to this site.  These stickers should be laser printed or inkjet will work if you laminate them with plastic film or even put them in a ziploc bag.  Anything to keep them readable until late spring.

The procedure is simple; go over the guardrail and go down slope a few feet so you are at least four or five feet down from the edge of the grass, drop a weight and walk across the slope horizontally to the end of that cord and drop the second weight there then head down slope until both down slope legs are snug.  Drop the third weight there and walk up slope following your template while you spread fertilizer in a swath about two feet wide.  When you get to the top of that cord, go horizontally to the next point, then back down to the origin, pull up your template and go on to the next exit.

Before you move on though, you will need to put a sticker with a QR code pointing back here on the back of each stop sign on the exit.  This is partly to mark your territory so we don’t have volunteers overwriting each other’s work which would affect the clarity of the message overall.  The other purpose is to serve as a vector for spreading information later in the cycle.

If you are interested, there is no sign up, no registration, no credit card info, no nothing, just go out and start doing it.  You will be glad you did when this symbol starts appearing everywhere and the authorities are stumped in determining the origin.  That is where the fun will begin.

If you want to get in the loop, you can send an email to the address on the contact page and we can keep in touch.
